Mind Mapping

Why You need Mind Mapping

Mind Mapping is a powerful but simple way of using diagrams to show information in the same way you think. Mind Mapping makes it easy to understand, remember, and communicate complex information.

Sometimes our brains feel as if they are scrambled because of information overload, overwhelm, or ineffective use of your brain. This leads to:

  • inability to solve problems effectively,
  • lack of creative thought,
  • lack of focus,
  • difficulty giving great presentations,
  • problems organizing your thoughts,
  • poor communication,
  • missing out tasks when planning projects,
  • forgetting important information.

Have you ever had any of these problems?

This is why you need to use Mind Mapping. You can use it to organize your thoughts, solve problems, brainstorm new ideas, and give compelling presentations.

NovaMind is software that makes Mind Mapping simple and powerful. You can use NovaMind as an aid in study, organization, problem solving, presentations and decision making. You will see the important issues, organize your thoughts, and solve problems quickly and effortlessly.

What is Mind Mapping?

Mind Mapping is a way of creating pictures that show ideas in the same way that they are represented in your brain.

Your brain uses words, pictures, numbers, logic, rhythm, color and spacial awareness to build up unique pictures of information. The ideas are linked together in a way that makes it easy to understand and remember.

What is Mind Mapping?

Mind Maps use exactly the same types of things to show the ideas and link them together. This is what makes Mind Mapping so powerful.

How to start Mind Mapping

You start with a central topic that you are going to be examining, and add branches radiating from the center, and then sub-branches as required to represent your ideas.

You create your Mind Maps in a natural way by using your own words and connections that make sense to you. It is best to stick to one or two keywords on the branches and use the branches to show the connections between the ideas.

What if I'm not an artist?

What if I can't break down my idea into a single keyword?

To create great looking Mind Maps on paper, you really had to be a good artist - the more skill you had in that area the better.

Of course, this is something you could learn, but takes time and practice.

Using NovaMind, you don't need any artistic skill at all. The program automatically creates colorful Mind Maps with smooth flowing curves for the branches. You can drag and drop images from the graphics libraries, or use your own images to make it look even more interesting.

This is a common issue when people are not used to Mind Mapping.

After having worked with Mind Mapping for many years, we have come to the conclusion that there are some times where you do want to have phrases and sentences on branches rather than just words. This is the exception rather than the rule though.

Try putting just one or two words on each branch and see how you go. It will force you to think carefully about the main ideas. In some cases, a paragraph may convert into one main keyword and several sub-branches with a keyword on each.

This really does open up thinking about the core meaning of the topic and the association of the refinements and explanations to the main topic.

Many people find the transition to this way of thinking difficult at first, but now they say they will never go back.

In Mind Mapping, there is no "right" or "wrong" way to organize your Mind Map, so don't be scared to try things out and find what works best for you.

How much does it cost? How do I justify the expense?

There are three editions of NovaMind, with prices and capabilities to match your needs.

For schools, primary school pupils and beginning Mind Mappers, we have NovaMind 4 Express for USD 49.

How do I justify the expense?

For businesses and employees, this is very easy. Here is an independent paper that shows how Mind Mapping increases your productivity by at least 20% on average. Just show this to your boss and (s)he will see the value of using Mind Mapping. Of course there are many other benefits, and we have case studies and examples throughout the web site, showing how people used Mind Mapping to help with their businesses.

For other uses, where the improved clarity and effectiveness is not measured in dollar terms, you will be able to organize and understand information more easily, recall it more easily, come up with new solutions, and present them to others powerfully and clearly.

This dramatically increases your productivity and effectiveness, and leverages your time to maximum advantage.

"Teacher's Guide to Mind Mapping" Feedback

Teacher's Guide to Mind Mapping is: "...a wonderful resource for educators who are using mind mapping in the classroom. The book is visually very appealing and the content will certainly help teachers to think about how they can use mind mapping effectively in the classroom across the curriculum. A Teacher's Guide to Mind Mapping is generously packed with beautifully printed mind maps in full color and clearly shows the power of this tool for students. As someone who is a specialist in working with students with disabilities, I have been a real advocate of the power of these tools with students with a range of learning disabilities. Mr. King in his book talks about the advantages of mind mapping and how it can facilitate memory, comprehension, and learning in the classroom. Mr. King illustrates the many ways that mind mapping can be used across the curriculum and the power of using visuals to address the needs of students with varying learning styles. If you are new to mind mapping or need some new ideas of how to use mind mapping technique and strategies then you will want to pick up a copy of Teacher's Guide to Mind Mapping."
