Thanks for the thoroughness of your reply Gideon, that is impressive in itself!
On reflection, I see there are two issues here. The first is whether the main topics which come off the central topic unfold clockwise or not. And the second is whether the children of the main-topics do.
With regard to the first, I am really surprised that this has not been brought up by others. I have used Mind Manager for years and I have always found it the default setting on Mind Manager that the main topics which come from the central topic unfold clockwise all the way round; I haven't even found an option to change that. When I was trained in Mind Mapping I was taught to work clockwise, and my memories from the books are to go also do this, I had understood that was a pretty standard practice. As a user this is one feature that I would definitely want, so that I don't have to change the order of my main topics in every map.
With regard to the second issue, I have found this more down to individuals' preferences, with people doing either/both and Mind Manager has the children of sub-topics going top-down on the left hand side, and I haven't seen an option to change this on there.
I teach mind mapping in schools and so would really appreciate the ability of the software to be able to do both, to demonstrate it. But I understand that I appear to be a bit of a lone voice!
Many Thanks for your time and attention,
