Organisational Style of branches
« on: June 08, 2009, 03:11:49 am »
Hi, I'm enjoying the trial of Novamind (Pro) but have a couple (few) of questions.

1. When I build a branch with sub branches the links between the top branch and it's sub branches all come out the side of of the main branch. In free mode I can drag the subbranches below the main branch (think like a traditional organisation chart) but the lines still flow out the side of the main branch and in the sides of the subbranches. I can see that the branches and sub branches seem to have anchor points in the middle of the sides as well as the corners, but I can't figure out how to change where the lines are coming out of or going into.

2. The organisation styles I have available are only five? (Business, Colourful, Glass) It looks like there should be more - am I missing something?

3. To get nice mindmaps with images is the best way there to add a branch where the text is on the branch line - then attach the image and place it at the end of the line?

4. Sometimes when developing a mindmap I have the need to drop an unconnected branch down on the page. I don't always know where and what I'm going to connect it to but it may have sub branches, notes and so forth. Is there a way to drop such a branch on the page without it becoming connected to the mindmap I already have there?

5. Lastly I often have notes about a branch or subbranch that I would like displayed at all times. Is the idea here to attach a textbox to a branch?

I am liking what I'm finding so far, but would really appreciate some feedback on the above.

Many thanks!
Stewart

Hi Stewart

1. In NovaMind 4, the connections are always to the sides of the branches. In NovaMind 5 we will have a proper top down (or bottom up) org chart style layout that can be set on a topic by topic basis.
2. Those are the pre-defined ones we have available. I would suggest you create your own templates if you want to reuse other layouts, or use the styles if that's sufficient for your needs. This is completely rebuilt in NovaMind 5, and is a much better solution all round.
3. You can either use attached images if you want to place them beside (or in front of or behind) the topic, or you can drag the image directly on to the topic, and then set whether it fits, fills, or stretches to fill the space, and whether it is above or below the text. This is another area which has been completely redesigned in NovaMind 5, with a huge amount more flexibility.
4. Every topic needs to be attached in NovaMind 4 - you can easily graft it to another position later. In NovaMind 5, we have floating topics.
5. Yes, use an attached text. In NovaMind 5, all the attached shapes will be able to have text in them.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Gideon,

Looks like the new version will be the answer! I hope that happens soon! I'll keep playing in the trial and see if I can 'make do' until then :-)
