Keyboard Shortcut
« on: January 24, 2009, 05:53:19 pm »
Currently, the enter key has this functionality
"Enter - If you have the a branch selected, but are not editing it, pressing Enter adds a sibling branch. If you are editing, Enter finishes editing.  If you want a new line in your branch text, press Ctrl+Enter. If you are in BranchStorm mode pressing Enter inserts a marker so you can start typing the text for the next branch."

I suggest that the Shift+Enter key combination be made to create a child branch off the current branch (copying the current Branch format).  This will enhance rapid information entry.

Regards

Gary

Hi, I am a newbie to this software.  I do like your software.  I looked everywhere to find the ability to change the keystroke for creating topics and sub topics.  I am on a MAC and the ENTER key kept putting the item into EDIT MODE. I am a keyboardist and I would love the ability to have the ENTER key create TOPICS at the same level.  I notice the TAB key creates subtopics but there are times when you want to stay with the MAIN TOPIC and just make SECONDARY topics in a rapid fire motion without touching the mouse and clicking on something. I tried the CMD + J and CMD + K but could not get those keystokes to work consistently.

Could there be an enhancement where the user has the option to set the use of their keyboard shortcuts.  I am trying to make and move around a mindmap without the use of a mouse.   There must be a way to stay at the SAME level when creating SUB TOPICS at the same level.   I ended up three levels deep instead of staying at the same level because the item either kept going in EDIT mode or moving another level deeper away from the MAIN topic.   In the business world we need the ability to do rapid fire entries.

Gary wrote about getting the ENTER key to add a sibling branch, but I I could not get it to work.    In addition, I could get NOT get the brainstorm method to work.

Could one of the future enhancements allow the user the flexibility of changing the keyboard shortcuts to create and move between branches (topics and subtopics) using ENTER, SHIFT-TAB, TAB, SHIFT+ENTER.  Minimizing the touching of the mouse is the goal.

Thanks Sue

This is currently different for the Mac and Windows versions of NovaMind 4, but will be addressed in NovaMind 5.

There has been a lot of improvement in the hot keys and shortcut keys of Novamind in the recent years.
