Drilldown/drillup
bobearl:
I suspect that Novamind can do this, but I don't know how to describe it. When choosing a branch, how do I make it jump to the center of a new mindmap display? This would really help navigation for me on big mindmaps.

I just saw this post after I posted one similar at http://www.nova-mind.com/Forum/index.php?topic=172.0
There doesn't appear to be regular scanning of these forums from Novamind staff - I must say that after seeing the drilldown affect, I was really quite amazed it's not a standard function as big mindmaps get very unwieldy to navigate as well as busy.

The main issue here is that some other programs have completely automatic layout of the Mind Map, in which case if you want to make another branch the center of the Mind Map temporarily, then you just move all the other branches around to suit, and you're done.
Obviously this doesn't work when you have the ability to put branches where you want them as you can in NovaMind - we don't want to be responsible for screwing up the layout that you have painstakingly put together! Then you put your branches where they look good while the rest of the Mind Map is hidden, then when you show it again, it doesn't fit any more. Most annoying.
Obviously at the moment we have the ability to hide the children branches of any branch, but that doesn't completely hide the Mind Map title or parent branches of the branch you want to focus on. For most people this is sufficient, but apparently not for all.
So this is something that a number of people have requested, so we are working on finding a solution which will both let you hide the rest of the map, and not screw up your formatting.

I see the main reason for being able to 'drill down' on one particular branch to view it as a hub is to apply the same creative mindmapping techniques to a branch i.e. view it as a 360 degree central point. I know my brain sees a hub in a different creative stance than a branch.
Once I've done doing the hub technique on the branch, I'd personally be happy to go back to the top level view and have Novamind auto-format the map to what it wants.

A possible work-around would occur if you simply create a master map of big ideas and then link your larger thoughts to addition maps that have more detail, which could then link to additional maps ad infinitum.
Not a slick technological fix, but I map to clarify and organize, Creating separate maps that link together helps me see the issue and the relationships.
