Clickable PDFs
« on: July 01, 2012, 02:28:46 am »
In the Mac version, we can share clickable PDFs.  This is wonderful and has allowed me to share maps, and also move hyperlinked maps from NMConnect to two different websites.  I do consultations and can send a map which has clickable hyperlinks to people without NM Software.  I love it.  They love it.  They can do their own research from my link-leads.

This is a vast improvement over NM4 and has turned me from a critic of NM5 into a fan.

Yeah, some maps take forever to export to PDF.  And you must use the inline hyperlink which requires cut-and-paste, not dragging the link on.  But you get more on a map because the hyperlink icon takes up a line and space and the inline hyperlinks take up no extra space.

I haven't tried embedding anything else.

well Thanks Kathy for your revealing feedback. I am using Windows version and when you said you have clickable PDFs I went fast to export some of my maps but I could not open any of the hyperlinks... :-[ Is this only available on Mac version? I wish I could have that and I would have half of my wishlist completed, the other half would be to be able to export and retract branches at will, same as Mindmanager PDF viewer.

If someone knows that windows version can export PDF with clickable links please share your experience.

I do not know the answer, but this much is true about the Mac version:  there are two kinds of hyperlinks and only one is clickable on the PDF version.  When I first tried it, it didn't work, until I learned this.

We have an inline hyperlink, in which you highlight text, right click (on a Mac it is something equivalent to right click) and select "add hyperlink".  Then you cut and paste the URL into a dialogue box rather than drag it to the topic.  The clickable link is at the highlighted text, not the icon.

So in the PDF version, click on the highlighted text, not on the icon.

If the Windows version is similar, then this is how it works.

Thanks Kathy, but no it did not work. When I highlighted a text and right click it I have no add hyperlink option on the menu. Only way to add a hyperlink is from the ribbon menu on the upper side of the software.

If someone from NM can help me clear out if this option is possible in windows I would really appreciate.

Regards,

Erick

I've split this topic from the original post.

The Windows version does not support clickable links in PDF. If you want to share a Mind Map in its full glory sharing the nm5 file itself is currently the best option. The Mac version does this but only for text links. Not the more common 'attached hyperlinks'.
Due to the technical difference between the Mac version and Windows version we do not plan to add this to the Windows version but we are investigating other possibilities to make sharing easier.

Thank You Patrick for clarifying this. I cross fingers you can find an alternative for this. You don't know how much I wish this feature on NM. It would make me very very happy.
