« on: May 10, 2012, 05:09:03 pm »
Hi,
anyone facing issues with latest beta? In my case beta causes an error I try to open any file. I have send error reports and hope you do same if any issues occurs. Anyway 5.3 seems to better user experience in many cases.

And I hope sooner 5.3 is ready sooner the presenter is available:)

have the same problem, not with all files but with a lot. Send report to Support yesterday.

If this problem is a common one, I'm a little cared about the tests executed before a release is published.  ::)

Beta releases, by definition, are part of the testing executed before release, so I'm cheered that there's activity by us regular users (including sending in crash and defect reports) during the beta phase.

In other words, the more issues uncovered during beta testing, the better; the more users willing to do beta testing on their non-mission-critical work, the better.

I'm with you and agree, but that you get the first error direct at opening of the first file is disappointing ...

Hi all.  I haven't used the update released today, but wanted to say that, so far, I am loving the new changes.

For me, design functions and ability to share online are the important features.  Two huge design improvements are features which allow export of opacities and shadows.  They might not seem like much, but I need to get as much information onto a single page as I can.  Visual image depth is important information.

Even better than this are clickable PDFs.  This is a feature that will lure me away from NM4.  My first attempt to send a private clickable PDF map to colleague's was met with "wow"s.

So the bugs I don't mind.  It is part of the learning process.

I hope you all get Presenter soon.  For me, my last big wish is public sharing (not just the gallery, which is helpful).  I want to get ideas from all of you, see what you are doing, and play with that.

Hi all,

I tried the clickable PDFs, but cannot get it to work. I'm exporting maps with hyperlinks to files or http addresses to pdf, when i click the links in the pdf nothing happens. Are there additional steps to be done?

Thanks
Olaf

Hi,

I also had no success in creating clickable hyperlinks in pdf -- nothing happens.
So I'm very interested to hear, what's going wrong, too.

Thanks for any explanation!

Gerhard

The clickable PDF hyperlinks are a totally different feature than the hyperlinks in the map versions that we have known so far.

You can create a hyperlink accessed by map viewers as you already know.

To create a hyperlink which can be viewed from the PDF version, it must be created by highlighting branch text (inline) and right-clicking (control-click on my Mac) to bring up a menu with a "create hyperlink" option.  Once that is selected, the expected dialogue box appears and you must copy and paste (not drag) the URL to the box.  Click OK and -- voila! -- there is a hyperlink.

The only ways follow the inline hyperlink are in map-edit mode, or to create a PDF and view from PDF version.

In PDF, of course, the link icons from the map are not clickable, only the linked text.

Capisce?  I have learned this from asking support and trying it.  Have fun.  It works.

Thanks Kathy,

with your advice I could make it working. Not really self explaining.

Specially I had than experienced the paste of "www.something.xxx" is not sufficient, the "http://" must go with it.
