Slow loading / performance

There's an FAQ [below]dating to 2010 regarding slow loading of NovaMind 5.0.
It suggests that virus scanners may cause the problem.

I have Microsoft Forefront Client on this PC. I have excluded the NovaMind folder in c:\Program Files and the NovaMind.exe file itself. But the delay in startup seems to be increasing with recent releases;
- 10 to 12 sec to splash screen
- 50 to 60 sec more until I can enter anything on a new map.

General questions about NovaMind 5 are answered in the NovaMind 5 FAQ.

 - NovaMind 5 takes a really long time to start up or the UI freezes for a couple of seconds when the window shows up

Our testing so far indicates that this is caused by a virus scanner.
If you experience similar issues we recommend that you to turn off the virus scanner (if you use one) and see if this changes things. If it does you might be able to configure your virus scanner to exclude the NovaMind files.

Perhaps this post on slow loading should have gone to support ... or support in addition to others. I appreciate the distinction that NM draws between Support and the Forum. So, in the Forum, I'm interested to know if others have similar slow loading experience, any trends, and any solutions that have worked for others. Thanks! 
And by the way, the 5.7 improvements look great. I have found some interesting uses for the curved topics.

A slow down caused by a virus scanner is the only confirmed issue with start up performance.
I am not sure what could be the reason for the slow down on your computer. Have you tried to turn the virus scanner off completely?

The splash screen should show almost instantaneously (on any machine) so there is definitely a problem. The application should normally be ready after around 10 to 20 seconds but depending on your machine specs and configuration this can take longer.

Thanks Patrick. Tried with the anti-virus off and a freshly restarted machine, no other applications running. Not much change. So, I'm inclined to leave things as they are while working on this machine [provided by a client], then return to MacBook Pro with Parallels ... where I run NM5 on OS X with great performance, and from time to time go to Windows in order to use Presenter. Nice to have options and hybrid solutions.


Appreciate all your efforts. Really enjoying the DRAFT Design with curved topic. It's eye catching for clients and can help keep a group engaged when facillitating a long web-meeting session.
