NovaMind 5 for Mac FAQ.
General questions about NovaMind 5 are answered in the NovaMind 5 FAQ.
What is the minimum OS X system version required?
The initial releases of NovaMind 5 run on Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion). The use of Lion is highly recommended, Snow Leopard is fine, but Leopard (10.5) is not recommended. NovaMind 5 does not run on 10.4 or earlier versions of MacOS X.
Before the release of NovaMind 5.1, we will stop active development for 10.5 versions of NovaMind 5. This is because already more than 96% of our customers are using Snow Leopard or Lion, and also supporting Leopard means that we can not concurrently use some of the advanced features of Snow Leopard or Lion. The reason we are offering a 10.5 compatible version at all is because we told our customers in 2009 that we would, and we are honoring that promise, but we can not let that stand in the way of continued progress and giving the vast majority of our customers the benefits of the latest advancements.
We have already added some features specific to Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion), and in several areas of the application, there are significant advantages to using Lion. This focus on Lion support will continue to increase over time, but we will continue to support Snow Leopard for the time being. Please see the blog post about Lion support for specifics on what is already included in NovaMind 5.
When will the Presenter, the FlexiTopics (FlexiBranches), NovaMind Connect and the Theme editor be available?
These features are still under development. We plan to deliver these features as free 5.x updates to NovaMind 5 customers.
We do not have an ETA for these features yet.
What about other features which were available in NovaMind 4 for Mac such as the Screenwriter and Suggesterator?
The Screenwriter and Suggesterator will be made available as plug-in's for NovaMind 5 for Mac.
We do not have an ETA at this stage. More information will be made available in due course.
Current known issues
Unfortunately, we had to use the 10.5 compatible drawing system for the 5.0 release, since we haven't yet managed to get rid of the flickering issue some people experienced.
If you want to use the better animations on 10.6 and 10.7, you can enter the following command in a Terminal window while NovaMind is NOT running:
defaults write com.novamind.NovaMind5 ForceViews NO
If you ever encounter flickering of the Mind Map, you can reset it to use the 10.5 compatible drawing system using the following command (again while NovaMind is not running):
defaults remove com.novamind.NovaMind5 ForceViews
We are still working with Apple on this issue.
