Mind Manager XML

Mind Manager and NovaMind are very different programs and have many things that are done differently, both from the user perspective, and from the perspective of the application functionality. For this reason, we have had to match up the capabilities of the two programs as best we can, which always involves some compromises to try to get the best possible result. Below is an explanation of the things that we have had to do in order to get the export to work as smoothly as possible.

To save your Mind Map for export to Mind Manager click on "File" / "Export" and select "Mind Manager" format from the list. Specify your filename and NovaMind will save the file with an .XML extension.

You can then use the "File" "Open" menu in Mind Manager to locate and open your .XML file.

Again there are some issues relating to what features in NovaMind have no compatible handling in Mind Manager so please refer to the table below to see how these issues will be handled.

Branches	Mind Manager doesn't have FlexiBranches, so these are translated into line shaped branches. Branch widths are generally automatically set in Mind Manager, so we honor that, so often text will wrap differently in Mind Manager Mind Manager doesn't have the ability to have the text in front of a graphic, so the export will reposition this text below the graphic.
Font attributes for Notes	Mind Manager doesn't recognize the font-style attributes for notes, so ignores things like bold and italic.
Fonts	Mind Manager doesn't recognize font names with a space in them, so will not always show the correct font in the notes. Also Mind Manager will not do any font substitution, so if a font with exactly the same name is not available on the machine running Mind Manager, the font will not show up correctly, even though the font name is shown in the font popup. For example, if you have Copperplate font used on your NovaMind mind map, and only Copperplate Gothic on your PC, then it will not show up as Copperplate Gothic.
Outline Numbering	Outline numbering is not transferred because in many cases, Mind Manager will not number the branches in the same way as NovaMind does, and also the numbering scheme handling is done by a custom MindManager plugin which may change separate from the main Mind Manager application, and is not documented by Mind Manager.
Rainbow Coloring	Mind Manager doesn't have rainbow coloring, so the colors are set as custom colors in each of the branches.
Graphics	No matter what image types are used in NovaMind, they are translated to PNG images when exported to Mind Manager. This means that they are translated at the set size and will pixellate on enlargement. Mind Manager doesn't have a direct equivalent of attached graphics or graphic text, so these are not translated.
Link Lines	Due to the fact that branch positioning is handled differently in Mind Manager, inter-branch link lines (relationships) will be curved approximately according to the distance of the handles from the start and end branch, and may look to be a different curve than what you saw in NovaMind.
Screenwriting Scripts	As Mind Manager doesn't support screenwriting, the screenwriter text is not exported.
Hyperlinks	Due to the different ways that files are referred to on PCs and Macs, file hyperlinks will not always work unchanged. The text of the path is reflected in the hyperlink and can be edited as required.
