Importing Files

Mind Manager and NovaMind are very different programs and have many things that are done differently, both from the user perspective, and from the perspective of the application functionality. For this reason, we have had to match up the capabilities of the two programs as best we can, which always involves some compromises to try to get the best possible result. Below is an explanation of the things that we have had to do in order to get the import to work as smoothly as possible.

NovaMind will allow you to either import Mind Manager files saved with the .mmap extension (the normal Mind Manager file format), or ones exported to XML in Mind Manager. You can just drag .mmap files onto the NovaMind icon to open them.

From Mind Manager to NovaMind Compatibility

Branch Shapes

NovaMind doesn't have hexagon, or octagon branch shapes, so these are translated to rounded rectangle branches.

Mind Manager doesn't have any way of specifying the amount of corner rounding of rounded rectangle branches, so a default value is used.

Image branch shapes are translated to rectangle branches with images on them.

NovaMind doesn't recognize branches with the image to the left or right of the text, so these are mapped to have the text on the image (vertically centered).

Callouts & Floating Topics

NovaMind doesn't have the notion of "Callouts" or "Floating Topics", so when these are translated, they come across as the closest thing we have, which is ordinary branches.

Tables

NovaMind doesn't have the ability to deal with tables in notes, so these are ignored in import.

Project Management

Where possible, the tasks and resources are brought across.

Outline Numbers

Outline numbers are not imported because Mind Manager has a different way of handling the numbers; if you have outline numbering turned on by default, then your Mind Map will show outline numbers using the standard NovaMind scheme as defined in your preferences.

Boundaries

NovaMind imports the boundary settings, but these are not shown in the current version of NovaMind (this will be added shortly)

Images

EMF images are not compatible with Macintosh image handling and cannot be imported into NovaMind. All other images are imported.
