Mind Maps By Kathleen

Document: Peripheral Vascular Disease Arrow_right_green

Circulatory problems in the extremities may start out mild and grow more serious over many years. The time to be "prevention-oriented" is as soon as problems are discovered. or sooner. These maps are overviews of some of the known causes, symptoms, lifestyle changes which should be considered, and treatment options.

Document: Knee Injury Arrow_right_green

This map has been converted to NM5. It is posted here as an image and linked to website page with a fully hyperlinked PDF version. Some knee injuries are serious and require orthopedic management. However, many are not and may be managed by a variety of external and internal factors, both self-administered and professionally obtained. This map is a result of my own study to help myself, and is not offered as a specific recommendation to anyone else. Red stars indicate newest links.

Document: Fungi Arrow_right_green

We share the planet with many varieties of life forms. One of the under-appreciated groups of organisms is the Fungal Kingdom. I wanted to learn about the nutritional, medicinal, environmental and toxic influences of fungi on humans. These maps are my personal "starter" maps, with links for further study. They were inspired by Paul Stamets, author of Mycelium Running.

Document: Natural Oscillations Arrow_right_green

The series of maps has been replaced by a simple introductory map on the physiologic importance of oscillations. Other maps provide more detail on specific aspects of oscillatory behavior and the effects of artificial EMF on it.

The map is posted here as an image, but is linked to a fully hyperlinked NM5 PDF.

Document: Macular Degeneration Arrow_right_green

Macular degeneration is a serious eye problem. There are not many effective therapies, but the most appropriate care needs to be instituted -- ophthalmologic as well as physiologic -- in order to maximize function and minimize vision loss. This map is an overview only of some of the research on possible concurrent conditions, deficiencies, etc., which can be treated and which may (perhaps indirectly) help the eyes to remain more stable. It is intended to be descriptive and not specific for any individual case.

Document: Natural Medicine Kit Arrow_right_green

I use a number of natural remedies -- nutrients, ointments, poultices, etc. -- to manage many of life's minor scrapes and bruises. These maps offer a glimpse of the variety of simple, traditional, effective (when used at the right time) remedies available. Links are provided where possible. No single remedy is intended as a prescription for any specific problem or individual, but rather the intent is to provide information.

Document: Biodiversity and Human Health Arrow_right_green

This is a review, in maps, of one of the most important books I have read in a long time. The beautiful, picture-filled textbook has many authors, but is edited and published out of Harvard Medical School. I could hardly do it justice, and any errors are mine, but I did want to organize some of the information and concepts (and links) for my own future use.

Document: Low Back Pain: Self-Help Activities Arrow_right_green

Back pain is a very large topic and each branch should be a map in itself. However, I wanted to provide a single page overview of the choices available for many chronic or recurrent conditions. The map is not intended to replace appropriate medical or structural treatment if it is necessary. It provides supplemental activities which may be performed at home. The highlighted branches represent a variety of options for therapy during an episode of pain. A number of links are provided for more complete discussions and pictures of both the structures and exercises. Updated 11/29/08 to include bromelain.

Document: Tachycardia: Sinus, Physiological Arrow_right_green

This NM5 map is one of 3 maps on the topic of POTS and related Tachycardia Syndromes. This map is posted as an image here, but the title box links to the site page with all 3 maps and their hyperlinked PDF versions. Red stars indicate the newest links.Rapid heartbeat, especially after meals or prolonged standing, may be uncomfortable even if benign. This was prepared as a way to study those causative factors which may be modified by lifestyle changes. It is not intended to replace proper diagnosis and medical treatment, or to provide any specific prescriptions or recommendations.

Document: Autoimmune Disorders: Factors to Evaluate Arrow_right_green

Autoimmune disorders may be serious and need medical attention for diagnosis and management of flare-ups. But they are not successfully managed in the long run by acute treatment alone. There is a growing body of literature in the fields of nutritional modulation of inflammation and repair, attention to balance of organisms in the body, detoxification, and more. This map presents an overview of some (not all) key factors and a few very helpful links.

This NM5 map is posted here as an image but is linked in the NM4 title box to the website page with the most current fully hyperlinked PDF version.

Document: Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth Arrow_right_green

There are trillions of bacteria in our intestinal tract, but most of them should be in the large intestine. When they proliferate in the small intestine, due to any of a number of causes, they can cause problems with digestion and absorption. This map offers an overview of the condition, with a few links, and lists many of the therapies presented in the literature.

Document: Type III Diabetes Arrow_right_green

There are known links between blood sugar dysregulation and dementia. Some researchers have named a separate disease entity to describe a cluster of associated symptoms and signs: type III diabetes. This is a study map only, an introduction and "starter" outline of a few relevant research abstracts and news articles which discuss them.

Document: Insulin Maps Arrow_right_green

These maps were prepared so that I could study many of the layers of the insulin/diabetes puzzle. There are lots of branches, "tidbits", and links. While mapping is a fabulous way to study complex topics, this particular topic is far from complete. More maps will be required just to address the basics. The information is intended to open avenues of study, but not intended to replace consultation, appropriate diagnosis and therapeutic recommendations from a medical professional. For many people with insulin disorders, natural therapies are NOT enough.

The NM5 maps are posted here as images but are linked in each NM4 title box to the website page with the most current fully hyperlinked PDF version.

Document: Hypertension: Supportive Natural Therapies Arrow_right_green

High blood pressure is a serious problem and needs to be properly diagnosed and treated. There are, in addition to prescription medications, a number of natural blood pressure regulating substances and lifestyle changes which may enhance clinical response. This map offers a "starter" list of a variety of natural remedies, most with links. Some important ones are highlighted, but there is a wide variation in need and response. Any additions to a blood pressure regimen should be done with the approval of the prescribing physician. This map is for educational purposes only.

Document: Iodine Arrow_right_green

This is a study map only. I wanted to learn about the way iodine is used in the body and what different opinions and products are available. A small amount of iodine/iodide is required for health, but it may be toxic or seriously allergenic to some people. This map has links to products, one important debate, tests, and food sources. It is not a therapeutic recommendation to anyone, but is offered as an overview of information for further study. A new link on iodine rich foods added 03/23/11.

Document: Sinus Problems: Natural Therapies Arrow_right_green

Sometimes a head cold doesn't quite clear up, or allergic symptoms transform into sinus problems. Even properly diagnosed, they are not always easy to treat. There are natural therapies which may expedite healing and reduce discomfort. This map is an overview of some available adjunctive therapies, but the displayed remedies are not intended to replace proper medical diagnosis or treatment.

This map is a NM5 map. It is posted here as an image, but linked at the NM4 title to a website page where the hyperlinked PDF is available.

Document: The Eyes and Healing Arrow_right_green

This is an overview of therapeutic modalities using the eyes and light. It is not a description of tissue, visual or ocular pathology, but rather a map summary of techniques, specialized lenses and instruments available from a variety of professional disciplines. It does not replace proper Ophthalmologic or Optometric examination or prescription.

Comment on document "Porverty and Homelessness"

Comment Title:Thank you.
Comment:I love the way maps help us learn difficult concepts "at a glance" --especially because branches allow the author to deliver a number of angles of vision to a single topic. Thank you for this. I am not a lawyer, but this topic fascinates me and your presentation helps me to grasp it a little better.
