Engineered nanoparticles are so small that they are essentially surfaces. They behave differently in the body than other naturally occurring small particles, complicating research. Nevertheless, serious health consequences have been noted.
I live in a small community in So. California. Our winters, while cold, are milder than most other parts of the US. The homeless population is larger in Los Angeles than any other US city, with 50-80,000 people homeless on any given night. This map provides links for obtaining and donating services and support in Tujunga, specifically, and Los Angeles in general. It is likely to be incomplete, but does offer an introduction and overview.
A fractal is a pattern that repeats itself on more than one scale, like a square full of squares -- or a cloud, coastline or mountain which may be small or large, but has more or less the same shape at any size. DNA is a 6-foot long coiled "ladder" of base pair steps that coils into bigger coils into bigger coils. The fractal pattern of the coiled DNA molecule may cause it to be sensitive to a large number of different frequency bands -- whether produced by nature or human technology. This map offers a very basic overview of the topic, with highlighted links to a study and excellent presentation by Dr. Martin Blank.
All living beings evolved without needing physiologic strategies for coping with heavy burdens of exogenous toxins. We have limited capacities to produce and recycle glutathione, the most important antioxidant, in our cells. We push our detoxification systems, including methylation -- which assists in the production of glutathione -- to their limits with our chemical exposures. To this, we add EMF. While we work to minimize our exposures to EMF sources, we can try to assist the detoxification and antioxidant functions within us. This map offers studies and links on the rationale for supporting our antioxidant defenses. Links corrected 12/06/11.
Thinking of purchasing a new car and wanting to minimize EMF? This map offers links to articles and discussions on magnetic fields and wireless technologies in new cars. Specific models are not recommended or named, except coincidentally by article authors. Special thanks to Save Living Technologies and EI Wellspring for their information. Links corrected 12/08/11. Two new links added to branch on EMF from steel-belted radials 01/08/12.
How living beings evolved to respond to the complex electromagnetic fields surrounding and penetrating the earth and its atmosphere is a subject which can only be introduced in a map. There are, however, some fascinating concepts to consider: light/dark cycles and the regulation of many metabolic processes in plants and animals, Schumann resonances from lightning strikes in the atmosphere which may synchronize rhythms in the brains of all mammals, and much more. This map offers a linked glimpse into some of the concepts to study and consider. A wonderful new overview of electromagnetism and life by Becker and Marino added 12/18/11.
How does EMF affect physiologic tissue? Many mechanisms have been proposed and studied. There are just too many variables of interaction between complex modulations of a wide spectrum of artificially produced electromagnetic fields and the spontaneous and rhythmic functions of living cells.
This map indexes other maps at www.oscillatorium.com which discuss either cell tissues or functions or both in relationship to non-ionizing electromagnetic field exposures. Two maps were added to this index on 01/08/12: DNA as a Fractal Antenna, and Methylation and Glutathione.
There are a number of maps at www.oscillatorium.com on subjects which relate to possible factors in bee decline or colony collapse disorder. This map serves as an index to the "bee maps", with hyperlinks taking you to the active maps for further personal study.
Autism is an increasingly common developmental disorder now affecting one child in 100, or perhaps more. The rising frequency suggests that environmental triggers play a large role. Strongly suspected are vaccinations, mercury, gluten, various neurotoxins and electromagnetic fields. This map links the few studies published and a number of clinical discussions and articles on the subject of autism and EMF. The most informative links are highlighted. An important new overview by Dr. Andrew Goldsworthy added 09/14/11.
Our bodies are approximately 2/3 water. This water forms a resonant matrix for physiologic functions. It is affected in some interesting ways by both natural and artificial electromagnetic fields. This map introduces concepts proposed by researchers studying the topic, and provides links to studies, analyses, and presentations. Links updated 11/22/11.
This map is a simple overview of different supplemental forms of magnesium. Some forms are more expensive. Some forms promote gastrointestinal activity. Some forms are more easily absorbed. Some forms are more easily delivered through the skin or by IV. A few links are offered.
Every wireless phone call, download, use of an app or period of ‘net surfing, causes toxic high frequency electromagnetic (EM) radiation to move at the speed of light through the environment. It travels from tower to tower, affecting living beings in its path.
Can we escape the long-term consequences of this invisible pollution when only a few of us perceive its short-term biological effects? Does our species have the right to pollute the biosphere with unnatural EM radiation, or do all living beings have the right to natural background radiation?
Individuals and governments are making choices and utilizing technologies that adversely affect all of life. This is the tragedy of the commons, an important topic introduced in this map. Thank you to Cindy Sage and Garrett Hardin.
"Smart appliances" are major household appliances with built-in wireless transmitters designed to perform a number of functions. They will apparently report to you via your computer or smart phone how much electricity you are using and what the charges are, shifting energy consumption to off-peak times. Some have voice recognition software. Some remind you of maintenance schedules. Some help technicians remotely diagnose problems. Some warn you to conserve energy. There are other features and functions as well. This map links many of major companies offering "smart" appliances, and presents an overview of the topic. Health and environmental issues are not discussed in depth in this map.
Some skin problems are chronic, causing periodic lifestyle restrictions and great discomfort. Pharmaceutical therapies may offer palliative care, but natural therapies may eliminate the causes. This map provides a number of links to sites with suggestions based on the experience of sufferers and/or researchers in the field. All therapies should be done following proper diagnosis and consultation with a healthcare professional. Links corrected 12/07/11.
Artificial EMF disrupts sleep. It is the time of our day when we are most vulnerable to it. This EMF is like a noise which cannot be turned off, a light which cannot be darkened. Depending on base and modulation frequencies, power densities, and variations in exposure durations, the brain is forced to cope with distractions from its work of repair, rejuvenation, and memory consolidation -- distractions outside its evolutionary experience.
This series of two maps introduces some of the features of normal sleep, and some of the known disruptions caused by artificial EMF exposure.
When we stand near electric motors or power lines, or use certain devices, we are being exposed to electric fields. The fields may not penetrate very deeply but they have an effect. When we are exposed to magnetic fields, electric currents may be induced deeply inside of our bodies. It is difficult to study due to the electrical complexity of living tissue.
What happens to us when exposed to exogenous electric fields? This map offers concepts and links that discuss this bioeffect.
The effects of non-ionizing electromagnetic fields on the brain and its surrounding tissues are profound. Cells and organelles are sensitive to the effects of free radical damage, bio-accumulation of toxins crossing the blood brain barrier, resonance effects on fluids and magnetite, and more. In addition to structural changes, EMF alters the delicate signaling mechanisms upon which neuronal activity and cellular communication depend. The map on EMF and Sleep was added to this Index 01/08/12.
This map serves as an index to other maps located at www.oscillatorium.com on the subject of EMF effects on the brain. Some maps are dedicated to brain structure and function and some maps discuss physiologic effects of EMF on tissues that are in the brain and elsewhere.
Many "environmentalists" are embracing wireless technologies because they look so simple to operate and they send and receive information invisibly. But they are not green: they have a huge carbon footprint and they are expensive in many ways. Worst of all, research is showing that the environment (plants, other animals, humans) is being adversely affected by these technologies. Links corrected 12/06/11. New article on cell phones and the Congo added 01/08/12.
Eli Pariser's important book teaches us when and how the Internet began to enclose each of us in a personal, filtered bubble of information. We are profiled by our data signals and clickstreams so that websites can quickly morph to suit our moods, and ads for products we might like can follow us from page to page. Personalization would make life easier if its invisibility didn't rob us of our cyber-independence. This map introduces some of Pariser's research findings and offers links to his book, his talks, and a few suggestions for consciously structuring our own Internet experiences.
This dense map was prepared as an overview with links for researching pain in the hip and/or pelvic area. Therapies are linked for online research, but this map is not intended to substitute for an accurate and individual diagnosis or appropriate therapeutic recommendations.
The concept of Streetcombing is brilliant. But, more than that, I love the way you created a visually attractive map to introduce your material to us. Thank you.
This is very helpful as a learning tool. Do you happen to know the license status for the various pages? Thanks for organizing the material so nicely. It translates well, by the way (via Google).
I love the way maps help us learn difficult concepts "at a glance" --especially because branches allow the author to deliver a number of angles of vision to a single topic. Thank you for this. I am not a lawyer, but this topic fascinates me and your presentation helps me to grasp it a little better.
