Description: The human diaphragm is a thin muscle which separates organs of the thoracic area from organs of the abdominal area. When pressure below the diaphragm is increased due to a number of factors, then symptoms may occur in the lungs, heart, or stomach. This is an overview for learning purposes only, and not intended to replace appropriate diagnosis or treatment. This document was edited to add pictures and links. |

Low Back Pain: Self-Help Activities

Kathleen Sundmark over 3 years ago |
Description: Back pain is a very large topic and each branch should be a map in itself. However, I wanted to provide a single page overview of the choices available for many chronic or recurrent conditions. The map is not intended to replace appropriate medical or structural treatment if it is necessary. It provides supplemental activities which may be performed at home. The highlighted branches represent a variety of options for therapy during an episode of pain. A number of links are provided for more complete discussions and pictures of both the structures and exercises. Updated 11/29/08 to include bromelain. |

Stasis Dermatitis

Kathleen Sundmark over 3 years ago |
Description: The combination of varicose veins and habits of prolonged sitting and standing can cause the skin -- generally of the calves -- to discolor and even break down. Unless there is an infection or serious inflammation, little can be done medically. It is better to prevent the stasis, but there are also a number of lifestyle activities which may slow down its progression. This is not intended to replace appropriate and personalized medical treatment, but merely provide an overview of supportive therapies. |
