Description: There are studies and articles that propose interactions between non-ionizing electromagnetic fields and environmental toxins or detoxification processes in living systems. This map is my initial attempt visually organize, with links, some of the different mechanisms. EMF permeates the whole body, and response by tissues is varying, so these mechanisms may not be easily isolated for research. Links corrected 12/08/11. |

Description:
Non-ionizing electromagnetic fields permeate our environment. The effects of these fields on our biological systems has been explored on other maps. In these two maps, I am trying to provide an overview of the possible effects at tissue, cellular and intracellular levels. Two themes seem to stand out in the research: free radical damage of several kinds, and movement of molecules and organelles in electric, magnetic, static and combination fields. Two new studies (decreased reproduction, apoptosis) were added 08/30/10. |
