priming: clinical setting
Dementia therapy approaches>Dementia therapy approaches
>specific approaches>techniques facilitating retrieval>priming facilitates recall>
clinicians often give an associate of the word to facilitate recall...
Or provide the name of the larger category of the thing the target word belongs to...
Or provide the opposite is a word to stimulate the target...
Other less well-known but equally valid methods of priming desired behaviours include:
- memory books
- " routines"
A routine = Ylvisaker and Feeney (2002) defined routines as "concrete structured event complexes that become organised mental representations that cue behaviour"
Also defined as "a behavioural chain in which each behaviour functions as a discriminated stimulus of the next behaviour and a conditioned reinforcer for the previous link (Halle and Spradlin, 1993)
