The macula is the area of the retina (at the back of the eye) which functions on behalf of our most acute central vision. Degeneration (AMD) may occur as a result of aging and other factors.
There are two diagnostic categories of AMD: dry (90%) and wet (10%). The dry is considered less treatable, but the wet is more serious and may cause rapid loss of central vision.
