NovaMind 5 for Mac gets “retina” display support; presenter updates

August 21, 2012

in Announcements: NovaMind 5 for Mac

The latest beta release of NovaMind 5.4 includes full support for the new “retina” display system shipping with new Mac computers.

For some applications, supporting the new retina display model is relatively straightforward, but for a graphically intensive and complex program like NovaMind, there is a significant amount of work involved. This includes processing over 500 images – either checking them under high resolution or creating completely new images to support the high resolution rendering. It also meant a number of program changes were necessary, including alterations to third party frameworks.

The end result is that the program now looks fantastic, and runs just fine with the high resolution displays, and even dynamically adjusts itself if you move a window from a high resolution display to standard resolution or vice versa.

NovaMind Presenter Updates

The latest updates to the beta releases also bring the following updates to the presenter (in NovaMind Platinum):

  • The ability to print the presentation slides, either on their own, or with space for notes. The slide printing allows for multiple slides to be printed on a single page, with the option of including 1,2,3,4,6, or 9 slides on a single page. You also have the ability to set headers and footers for your printouts, as well as various other options as to how to print the slides.
  • There is now an option to be able to show topic notes during the presentation, automatically scaling up the font size to make the text legible in a presentation setting. There are also hotkeys for showing and hiding the topic notes.
  • NovaMind will now detect whether you have a projector attached (or two monitors) when you start your presentation, and will automatically turn on screen mirroring. There is also a hotkey within NovaMind to turn off screen mirroring, and this is honored for future presentations (until you turn it on again).
  • The help documentation has been updated to include information about these new options.

With these updates, we are feature complete for the 5.4 release, and just have the performance tuning and debugging to complete before release.
